5 Tips for an Ayurvedic Christmas
Christmas is always stressful. Stress reflects on the psyche and tends to add a little weight on our hips as well. With a few Ayurvedic tips, we can avoid holiday downfalls!
Rather than emerge from Christmas feeling bloated and overtaxed, here are five simple measures to help you recharge your batteries, even during the holidays.
1. Ayurvedic Christmas Dinner
Not to worry, "Ayurvedic" doesn't mean "bland". Ayurvedic food just doesn't tend to be quite as rich, which means it is better tolerated by our bodies, which helps us avoid stomach complaints. Soups, steamed seasonal vegetables and lemon and ginger tea are particularly recommended.
2. An Ayurvedic Toast!
In winter, Ayurveda aims to keep the body warm. This is a perfect excuse to drink mulled wine. The secret of a good mulled wine is always in the spices, which is perfect for the Ayurvedic tradition. Here's our mulled wine recipe:
Ingredients:
- 1 lt. wine
- 2 teaspoons cardamom
- 2 teaspoons Ceylon cinnamon
- 2 lemons
- 2 oranges
- 1 pc. fresh ginger (2 cm)
- ½ teaspoon cloves
- ½ teaspoon allspice
- honey
Preparation:
- Squeeze out the oranges and lemons.
- Let the juice warm slowly in a large pot. Add the cinnamon, cloves, allspice, ginger and cardamom. Let steep for 10 minutes.
- Add the wine and simmer for another 10 minutes. (Do not boil!)
- Remove from heat and sweeten to taste with honey.
3. Ayurvedic Gift Ideas
Ayurveda also offers a lot of great holiday gifts. Just think about what you recipient prefers- a nice body oil and a gift certificate for a massage make a perfect gift! Or a sweet snack, a spicy tea or the right spices can delight anyone!
4. Keeping Fit
During the holidays, we should still pay attention to our bodies. Whether training outdoors or just doing a little stretching in the warm indoors - a little training is simply good for us. It's best to listen to your body. If you feel sluggish, a little movement is just the thing to help you feel better. If you feel tense or overwhelmed, taking a walk is just the trick.
5. Don't Forget to Get Some Rest
It is tempting to stay indoors during the cold, dark days, but regular social activities bring joy and energy. Nevertheless, make sure to get enough rest. Balance is always important!
We wish you wonderful, peaceful Christmas and a Happy New Year, all in harmonious balance :)
